Community Impact

Closing gaps. Restoring community.

We are early, and we are honest about it. Rather than publish numbers we have not earned, we are telling you plainly what the need is, what we are building, and how you can help.

The Challenge

Many lower-income families in Memphis neighborhoods, including South Memphis and Orange Mound, face overwhelming barriers when aging caregivers and loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities need safe, specialized, affordable support.

Caregivers grow older alongside the people they care for. Waitlists are long, information is scattered, and transportation, cost, and trust all stand in the way of help.

Establishing compliant services in underserved urban areas is also complex. Provider-location rules, including Tennessee's 500-yard requirements, can limit where new services may be established — which is why thoughtful planning, collaboration, and advocacy matter.

What We Are Building

  • A trusted referral network

Relationships with congregations, clinics, nonprofits, and neighborhood leaders so families are handed to people, not to voicemail.

  • Community-integrated supports

Care designed to keep people in their neighborhoods, near the relationships and routines that already sustain them.

  • Caregiver-centered practice

Support for the family members — often aging themselves — who carry care every day without relief.

  • Local workforce pathways

Preparation and opportunity for neighbors who want to build careers in caregiving and community support.

How Communities Can Help

  • Refer a family who is trying to figure this out alone.
  • Open a room, a kitchen, or a meeting space for community gatherings.
  • Share professional skills — legal, financial, clinical, or administrative.
  • Partner as a congregation, clinic, school, or neighborhood association.
  • Sponsor or fund program development as pathways become available.
